Moses Mendelssohn (6 September 1729 – 4 January 1786) was a German Jewish philosopher to whose ideas the renaissance of European Jews, Haskalah (the Jewish Enlightenment) is indebted. Although himself a practising orthodox Jew, he has been referred to as the father of Reform Judaism. Moses ben Maimon, called Maimonides and also known as Mūsā ibn Maymūn (Arabic: موسى بن ميمون), or Rambam (רמב ם – Hebrew acronym for Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon ), was a preeminent medieval Jewish philosopher and one of the greatest Torah scholars and physicians of the Middle Ages.
